George C. Hemminger, one of the charter members of Heritage Presbyterian Church, shared the same February 22 birthday (not year!) with George Washington. On one birthday his daughter presented him with a "Mount Vernon Red Maple" grown from seed collected at Washington's home on the Potomac. When the Hemminger home was sold, the red maple was transplanted to the grounds of the Heritage Presbyterian Church. A bronze plaque recognizing this presentation was installed on February 22, 1997.
